Entry Two ~ Summer Reading

The complexity of the characters starts with Miles’s love for Alaska. Their relationship is completely one way, Miles loves Alaska, but she doesn’t feel the same way about him. Another conflict between the characters is between The Eagle and all of the students. The Eagle is trying to catch the students smoking and doing other bad stuff, but the students just want to not be caught by him.

This book is spilt up into two parts, before and after. This refers to what happened the before and what happened after Alaska’s death. Instead of chapters author John Green breaks the two sections by using a technique that is almost a day by day description, of what happened the days before and the days following Alaska’s death.

One theme that is starting to appear is; death is a new beginning. Miles knew Alaska for 128 days, but the rest of his life would be changed forever. Now he has to finish the rest of his Culver Creek school year without her. The think about the colonial he has been friends with Alaska for three years. He considered her to be his best friend, and losing your best friend is probably the worst thing any human being could go through.
