For this year’s summer reading
project I read the book Looking for
Alaska by John green. The book starts off by introducing the main character,
Miles Halter, and talking about how he left to go to school in Alabama because doesn’t
have any friends at his current school. When he arrives in his new school named
Culver Creek, he meets two people, one of which is his new roommate, Chip
Martin. Chip is short, but covered in muscle. While Miles it tall, but lean.
Chip gives Miles the nick name “Pudgy” because it’s the exact opposite of what
he actually looks like. Chip also has a nick name, which is “The Colonial.”
After Miles meets The Colonial, The Colonial takes Miles to a room down the
hall where Miles meets a girl named Alaska. Miles instantly falls in love with Alaska.
The real reason The Colonial took Miles over to Alaska’s room is because she
had cigarettes. Later on while Miles and The Colonial are smoking, another character
is introduced, Mr. Starnes. He’s given the nick name The Eagle because he lives
within the dorm circle and he is known to see everything. So far there hasn’t been
much conflict between characters.
