The Author infuses pathos into the reading by showing his expertise throughout the text, then going on to say “I still get dysentery at least once a month” (Eighner 718). Even though he knows a lot about what he’s doing and is very cautious he still gets sick.  He also expresses how “Dumpster diving has serious drawbacks as a way of life” (Eighner 718). This is pathos because it pulls on your heart stings and makes you feel bad for him. For the duration of the chapter, he puts you in his shoes. He goes through all the things he encounters on a daily basis, and voices his like or dislike towards them. Another big example of how he infuses pathos is when he mentions his dog. Everyone loves animals, some more than others. When he talks about his dog, it immediately makes the reader appreciate how much he still cares about his dog even though he has little to nothing for himself. The title of his book is Travels with Lizbeth (1993). This also shows how he wanted people to know that he is with his dog. He doesn’t mention his dog often in the chapter itself, but the title is the best reminder for us that Eighner does have his dog with him.
