What can be learned from the Harlem Renaissance writer?

In his poem “America,” Claude Mckay expresses his hate of racism, however he also shows he still has a positive view of america :

Although she feeds me bread of bitterness,

And sinks into my throat her tiger’s tooth,

Stealing my breath, I will confess

I love this cultured hell that tests my youth. (Mckay)

He hates segregation, but he loves America. It shows that the people had hope. Times were bad, but people still had confidence in America. They had high expectations for America to have equality.
